About Us
The inspiration for Remembrances came from the passing of my mother. She had chosen cremation many years ago with one caveat. She wanted her ashes scattered in the Atlantic Ocean near where we used to vacation as a family. The ocean has always been her favorite place and of course I agreed to fulfill her final wish. What I didn’t know at that time was my mother had made a similar promise to my youngest sister just before she transitioned suddenly a few years before. I discovered my conundrum while sorting and boxing clothes and shoes in my mom’s closet. On a shelf, in a corner was a box that was unfamiliar to me. It contained my sister’s cremains. Now I found myself with two promises to fulfill. My sister had made the same request, to have her ashes scattered in the ocean near our old family vacation spot.
After receiving my mom’s cremains I began planning a visit to fulfill my promises. Scattering ashes in the ocean would mean nothing less than chartering a boat, hotel stays, transportation, meals, and family updates as several others expressed interest in attending. Plus I had to research federal, state, and local laws and regulations to ensure my compliance. Days turned into weeks. Nothing was easy and on top of everything, it was looking to be an eight to ten thousand dollar venture, far exceeding my budget. Undeterred, my wife and I explored other avenues and another couple of weeks later we were no closer. Frustration was mounting.
One night while discussing things with my wife we began trying to find a less expensive alternative. Christmas had just come and gone and my favorite gift was a small camera drone. My wife wondered if we could find someone to scatter the ashes by drone. She reasoned it would likely be cheaper and would be a cutting edge way to honor my mom and sister. I thought it was an amazing idea and promptly went about searching for a company that could help us. First, I found no companies. The few drone operators I did find in the area refused to scatter ashes. Despite my research proving nothing was illegal or restricted, they still politely declined. I continued searching and eventually found two companies offering the service I desired. Both were in England.
My wife casually suggested if it didn’t exist, maybe we should create it. Starting a business would have plenty of hurdles of its own, but a huge upside as well. Our goal was to create a cost effective, totally new service for cremains. We designed our packages with compassion and families in mind. The keepsake items included with each package are intended to offer comfort in times of sorrow as well as serve as a record of a family’s heritage that can be passed down through future generations. After more than a year of hard work behind the scenes Remembrances, Inc. opened its doors in 2024, offering a most unique and affordable aerial cremains service.
